Giant Sequoia, Sequoiadendron giganteum, is the most massive tree on earth. It grows naturally in a very small area of California that ranges 260 miles by 15 miles wide in the Sierra Nevadas. All of the Sequoia that we cut is from trees that were planted in cities and houses. None of the wood is from the wild forests. Sequoia is light and cuts easily. Colors are hues of pink/red and purple and the sapwood is a clear white. This piece has a machine mark on the front edge. For a $45 fee, we can use a hand draw knife and smooth this edge for you. There is also a 7 inch end split to the right of the numbers in the sapwood.

This is salvaged material from previous logging that occurred from 1940-1960. It has been kiln dried in our vacuum kiln and surfaced on two sides but may contain a slight amount of residual moisture. An occasional check may be present. This species is prone to small hairline surface checks that do not affect the integrity of the wood. This great species finishes nicely and yields beautiful iridescence. You will enjoy the very aromatic, clean, crisp fragrance!
